Good Friday is the most solemn and sober day of the entire Christian year, as we remember Christ's humiliation, suffering, and death upon the cross. We see our reflection in the hardened faces of the crowd calling for Jesus' execution, and we examine with raw humility how our hardness of heart puts distance between ourselves and our God. However, we are also confronted with another fact on this day: even when Christ sees us at our very worst, he loves us unconditionally, to the point of giving his very life that we might be reunited with God by his sacrifice.
During this service, the entire Passion narrative from the Gospel of John is read, and the Solemn Collects are prayed. There is no celebration of Eucharist at this service.
